For my final project, I have narrowed it down to building a cubby wall shelf with 18 cubbies that all can display either jewelry or collectibles. The maximum amount I want to spend on this project is $50-$70. I would most likely buy some pieces of 1 x 3 or 1x 4 for the shelves. Then either some 1x8 or 1x12 for the backing or some 1/2" and 3/4" plywood for the backing as well. The plywood is $30 for 4ft x 8ft. The 1x8 is around $20 and the 1x12 is around $30 on home depot and the 1x4 is around $10 and the 1x3 is around $6 on home depot. I'm guessing the total price for my final project will be around $40-$60.

A good project. 1x4 would give a 3 1/2" deep cubby. Consider going up to 1x6 if you want/need deeper cubbies. I like the decorative curve at the top. This has a nice rustic look but I think I want you to rout the inside of each cubby to soften the edge. Lets discuss fastening ideas/strategies.
