I plan to do this general bookshelf design except i am gonna alter the size to roughly a 3' x 2' shelf to fit in the space that i am designing it for. For the vertical pieces that make up the shelves i plan to use 1/2" sande plywood and for the base of each shelf i plan to use 3/4" sande plywood.
Approximate Cost:
1 sheet of 1/2" plywood = $31.95
I sheet of 3/4" plywood = $39.98
Total Cost= $71.93

Does that mean two tiers instead of four? 1/2" will be difficult to fasten into. Consider 1x for the verticals and..maybe 2x for the shelves/base. Or, you could plane down the 1x a bit thinner.
